Larry's Story

Larry has dedicated his life to serving our country in the military. Enlisting in 1983, Larry went on to a career as a Navy SEAL, Certified Jumpmaster, Diving Supervisor, and ultimately a Command Master Chief. He has deployed 14-times around the world including to East Timor, Bosnia, the Philippines, Iraq, and Afghanistan; with 6 of those deployments in Combat. For his efforts he has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V (Valor, two awards), The Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (two Theaters) and various other unit service and campaign awards. He subsequently continues his service as a Leadership Development Instructor at the Naval War College in 2011, where he taught for two years until retiring from the Navy on July 4th, 2013 after 30-years of honorable service.

Since Leaving the SEAL Teams, Larry has opened his own Small Business and works as a consultant for military logistics and training support as well as owner and operator of his own charter business. His work in the private sector has provided critical logistic and training support to the military at significant savings to the Government. His example of stewardship of your tax dollar will serve well in the House of Representatives.

Since moving to East County over three years ago, Larry has become a member of the Los Senderos Riding Club and joins his wife Therese as family members of the Pine Valley Mountain Riders Club. Larry is a sitting board member of the Horse of the Sun Ranch (a non-profit focused on helping Wounded Veterans) and has been a consistent supporter of the Warrior Foundation/Freedom Station for the last 15-years. Freedom Station is a housing project that houses wounded Veterans as they make the transition from Honorable service to life in the private sector.

In his spare time, you will find Larry with his horse “Dutch” riding in the mountains of east San Diego County, splitting firewood, or working his small ranch.

Larry is married to Therese Bernard, and they have 4-daughters (Michelle, Chelsea, Brianna, and Lorraine) and two grandchildren (Landon & Makenzie).
